Menthol, organic compound, colorless needle crystal or granular. It is the main component in peppermint and peppermint essential oils, and exists in free and ester state. There are 8 kinds of isomers of menthol, and their fragrance properties are different. L-menthol has a mint aroma and a cooling effect. Racemic menthol also has a cooling effect, and other isomers have no cooling effect. It can be used as a flavoring agent for toothpaste, perfume, beverage and candy. It is used as a stimulant in medicine, acting on the skin or mucous membranes, it has a cooling and itching effect; oral administration can be used for headaches and inflammation of the nose, throat, and throat.
