Latin name: Semiaquilegia adoxoides

Synonyms: Aquilegia adoxoidesAquilegia adoxoides

Family: Ranunculaceae (Buttercup Family)

Medicinal use of Tian Kui: The root is specifically recommended in the treatment of dry scabby skin and urinary disorders. The tubers are depurative, diuretic and febrifuge.


Habitat of the herb: the herb: Mountains, C. and S. Japan. Damp and shady waste places in China. Forests and roadsides at elevations of 100 - 1100 metres.
Propagation of Tian Kui: Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a cold frame. It can be slow to germinate. Stored seed can be sown in late winter in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts. Division in spring.
