Family: Caryophyllaceae (Pink Family, Starwort Family)

Medicinal use of Sagina maxima: The whole plant is febrifuge, its use stimulates blood circulation. Adecoction is used in the treatment of "angry" boils, "lacquer" sores (probably refers to rashes caused by the sap of Rhus species), dental caries, snakebites, pterygium and traumatic injuries.


Habitat of the herb: the herb: Near seashores, C. and N. Japan. Roadsides, hilly slopes and damp places by stream banks in China.
Propagation of Sagina maxima: Seed - we have no information for this species but suggest sowing the seed in a cold frame in the spring. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer. If you have sufficient seed it might be worthwhile sowing some in situ in April.
Cultivation of the herb: Near seashores, C. and N. Japan. Roadsides, hilly slopes and damp places by stream banks in China.
